Throughout the 2020 CFL off-season, the Ottawa Redblacks have stayed busy moving players around and one thing that they’ve specialized in is moving players in. Of the players moving into Ottawa for the 2020 season is Canadian receiver Malcolm Williams. Williams, 26, has put together a solid resume to build off of with Redblacks.
On that resume currently is a three year stint with the Toronto Argonauts. With the Argos, Williams’ career took off on the teams practice squad and then come 2017 was promoted to the active roster where he’d go on to play 14 games. 14 games deep into his career, Malcolm Williams was able to catch 14 of 20 passes for 153 yards.

The numbers aren’t too flashy but the 6 foot 3, former CJFL receiver put his body on the line for these numbers and won a Grey Cup while he was at it. In his last year with the Argos in 2018, he suited up 10 times to catch just 13 passes. The down year wasn’t what both Williams or the Argos expected to have, so come his 4th year he was on the move.

Williams spent the 2019 CFL season out west with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers which hopefully would be different than his season before. He and the Bombers were hoping for a productive season, but unfortunately his role on the offensive side of the ball was short and he was mostly used on special teams. With the Bombers though; Williams was able to win the Grey Cup and meet a lot of great coaches and players.

Among the list of people he did get to meet last season was (Redblacks head coach) Paul LaPolice, who he will be meeting again with in Ottawa. Williams and LaPolice will reunite together in Ottawa and LaPolice, unlike his first time with Williams could use him a lot in the offense. Not only is he Canadian talent, but he’s talent at the receiver position and given the fact that the Redblacks have lost key players at that position through the past 2 years, he can play a big role on the team in 2020.
