On Wednesday November 17th there were 16 residents of Ottawa, Ontario who received awards and were added to the Order of Ottawa, being recognized for the work they have done in their respective fields. Of those receiving awards was football coach from the east end of Ottawa, Jean-Sorphia Guillaume. Guillaume received the 2020 Brian Kilrea award on Wednesday for Excellence in Coaching. The award for Guillaume was announced in October of 2020, but due to COVID-19 restrictions, the ceremony and giving of the trophy was only able to proceed in November of this year.
Guillaume has done a lot of work in the city of Ottawa as a football coach, teacher and a mentor more a number of young men and women in the nation’s capital. The Brian Kilrea award for Excellence in Coaching is a huge honour for him, and having been awarded it in person by both Mayor of Ottawa Jim Watson and Brian Kilrea himself only shows how much his work is getting noticed now.
