What went well
Throughout the loss in last night’s game, the REDBLACKS showed some very good things!
Lewis Ward continued his consecutive regular season field goal streak with a 53 yard field goal, now he’s got 59 straight field goals in regular season play!
Both Avery Williams and Avery Ellis had monster games on the defensive side of the ball! Williams rallied up 8 defensive tackles, while his buddy on the defensive line had a sack to go with 5 tackles.
R.J Harris and Dominique Rhymes had shown consistency, together they had 145 total yards, along with 6 catches each! The two receivers are game changers when they get the ball, if we get these guys targets early in next week’s game, both of them could have crazy games.
What killed the vibe
In last night’s showdown, the REDBLACKS lost 29-14 to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Both Matt Nichols and Chris Streveler added up 304 passing yards, 2 touchdowns and one interception along with 62 rush yards for both QBs combined. To let the two quarterbacks throw for over 300 yards, the defensive line didn’t put enough pressure on the quarterback. When there is no pressure on the quarterback, it gives more time for the receivers to run their routes, and get open. Shoutout to the Winnipeg offensive line, for giving time in the pocket for Nichols and Streveler, while giving holes for Andrew Harris to run through against the tough Ottawa defense.
Along with the difficulty on the defensive line, there were a few missed chances on the offense. Starting with a offensive pass interference call on Caleb Holley after a nice 39 yard completion, which would have given us field position inside the redzone. Caleb Holley had struggled throughout the game, recording a drop on 2nd and 10 from our own 10 yard line, which would have led to a first down, and he also fumbled near the end of the game. Keep an eye out for #80 in next week’s game against Montreal, he’ll have a big comeback game.
