Run game heating up as the Redblacks go into week 9 of the CFL season

To start the season, running back Mossis Madu rushed for 112 yards in the win over Calgary. Along with Madu’s big performance, Quarterback Dominique Davis kept the ball for 3 touchdowns on the run. After the big win in Calgary, the Redblacks would face the Saskatchewan Roughriders at home, where both Madu and Davis would combine for 93 yards and a 2 point conversion.

After two big games, the Redblacks were prepared to face off against the undefeated Winnipeg Blue Bombers. With the run game on a rise, Winnipeg was playing run first defense. After 3 quarters, the Redblacks were down 22-14 where the pass game was heavily in effect as the run game was a huge struggle. With the run game a struggle, Davis was leaned on to make a big play or two. Davis struggled to air the ball out and Madu ended the game with 18 rush yards on just 6 carries.

After a disappointing loss to Winnipeg, the Redblacks brought up running back John Crockett to the active roster ahead of week 5’s match-up against Montreal. Despite the loss, both John Crockett and Mossis Madu had monster games. John Crockett ended the day with 62 rush yards on 8 carries, while Madu had 11 rushes for 47 yards. To go with the running backs performances, quarterback Dominique Davis also ran for 2 touchdowns.

Now we fast forward a few weeks, Mossis Madu has sat 3 weeks on the 1 game injured list and John Crockett has started every game during that absence. Dominique Davis has sat out two games but is also back in the lineup.

John Crockett, who has dressed in 4 games and started 3 is 6th in the league for rush yards with 305. He averages 76.2 yards every game he is dressed, while he also averages over 100 yards per game started. Although both Madu and Crockett have struggled to find the end zone, Dominique Davis has helped on all aspects, rushing for over 80 yards and 5 touchdowns.
