Redblacks front office makes big announcements, bringing back Avery Williams and signing Nick Arbuckle to the squad

The Ottawa Redblacks will be three months into the off-season by tomorrow, February 1st and they’ve proven to be busy throughout the past few months and today is a good example of just that.

Today, January 31st was one of a few days which gave Redblacks fans news to cheer about. The Redblacks front office, led by Marcel Desjardins were successful in negotiations with both Nick Arbuckle and Avery Williams.

Avery Williams has been a big part of the Redblacks defense for the past two seasons, and following his career year in Ottawa which he was able to make 70 tackles and a sack, he scored himself a one year contract extension in Ottawa. The numbers put up in 2019 were all in just 11 games, and with him averaging over 6 tackles a game he was nominated to be the Redblacks MVP representative.

Along with the team’s MOP from a year ago is the MOP hopeful for this coming season, Nick Arbuckle. Arbuckle’s rights were traded to Ottawa a few weeks ago from Calgary and today, the two Nick Arbuckle and Marcel Desjardins were able to come together on a contract.

Last season, Arbuckle started 7 games where he combined for over 2,000 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and just 5 interceptions along with 4 rushing tds.

Arbuckle’s numbers and reputation from the past earned him a $210,000 signing bonus on a possible $470,000 contract with incentives in 2020 and a possible $490,000 in 2021.

Welcome back to Ottawa Avery Williams, and Welcome to the team Nick Arbuckle!
